Charnwood Training Scheme has been around for more than 25 years. For eighteen of these years it was operated by Mick Barradell and family as part of the BMF Rider Training Charity. I bought it from them in 2000 to make it my full time job; I had already been a part time Instructor with them for eight years.
Most of our instructors have normal day jobs which means they must enjoy teaching people to ride because it does take up a lot of free time and week ends, a BIG Thank You to them.
We are a good bunch of people whether we are training or socialising we do work hard to keep our standards well above the average training schools that’s why our pass rate is so high.
We have male and female instructors both young and less young (old) all of whom are knowledgeable and patient with a good sense of humour.
Apart from normal training we teach in the local colleges, they are 14 /16 year old students and all this is done on our training ground off road, its very similar to driver education in America. They do a lot of Highway Code work and safety work, well before we get them riding.
So as you can see we are quite busy encouraging people both young, old, girlie and non-girlie to ride.
Our mission is to give the finest possible motorcycle training we can provide and we try our very best to do so.
